Dublin South West Fianna Fáil TD, Charlie O'Connor attended the opening of a major new materials recovery facility to serve the Dublin region.

Deputy O'Connor said: "The state-of-the-art facility, located at Ballymount in Dublin 12, will process all the Green Bin materials in the Dublin region for the next 20 years. It is a joint operation between the four Dublin local authorities."

"During discussions with Minister Gormley, he outlined that this facility will employ over 180 jobs; 85 people on site with a further 100 collecting green bins. I understand that it will have a capacity of 100,000 tonnes per annum."

"It is vital that this government continues to invest in green infrastructure to ensure sustainable economic development, secure future job creation and to provide people with the highest standards in green services.

"The facility has received over €26 million and I am delighted that the Department of the Environment is committed to investing a further €13 million over the next 5 years."

"Those who wish to seek further information on recycling services in the Dublin area can log onto www.DublinWaste.ie," said Deputy O'Connor.
